MISANO: THE GRAN FINALE
The 2024 MotoE World Championship drew to a close today with the final two races of the season. The two encounters were positive ones for Matteo Ferrari as he was twice sixth at the finish line from tenth place on the grid, as he was sporting Fausto Gresini’s colours at his home track. Thanks to a few setup changes after qualifying, he managed to make the difference in the race as he also recorded the fastest lap of the second encounter in 1’39.862. It was a little consolation price at the end of a challenging season, which he finished in eighth place with 132 points.
It was an uphill battle in both races for Alessio Finello as he crossed the line in twelfth position both times, on a track where the Turin-born rider struggled to get up to speed. Despite a sub-par final round, he can be happy with this ever-improving season, in which he narrowed the gap down to the frontrunners: with a tally of 70 points, twice as much as last year, he wraps up the racing year in fourteenth place.
MATTEO FERRARI #11 (6th RACE 1 – 6th RACE 2; 8th in the championship standings with 132 points)
“These have been the best two races of the year: I rode well aboard the best bike we have used in this 2024, so I’m very happy. We made a further little step in race two; it’s too bad we were missing something on the straight but we managed it the best way possible. We deserved a podium finish but unfortunately it didn’t come this year. I learned a lot in this season, which has been the most challenging of my MotoE career. But there are always opportunities to learn and I’m happy we managed to make a step forward in the second half as we worked hard and stayed focused. It’s a season in which we got upset a lot, as we like to race at the front and it’s hard when you can’t do it, but we managed it well and did the fastest lap today in race two, as the icing on the cake.”
ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (12th RACE 1 – 12th RACE 2; 14th in the championship standings with 70 points)
“Today we knew the two races may have been difficult as I always struggle a bit more here. We improved but I can’t fully happy with today as the gap with the frontrunners got bigger again. Still, we gave it all in each session: I should come here to train more! Looking back at the season I give myself a 7 as it was a season of constant growth in which I got the first race result with an eighth place, but also narrowed the gap down to the frontrunners and the overall gap in the race. I can be happy as I did grow quite a lot. I’m sorry to have finished the year with a subpar race day but this gives me the right boost to keep improving.”
