FOURTH PLACE FOR ARENAS IN QUALIFYING AT SEPANG
Albert Arenas has had a strong showing today at the Sepang International Circuit, as he topped the combined Practice timesheets while showing great pace with used tyres. As he was seeded directly to Q2, he confirmed his speed also in the time attack as he logged a 2’04.643secs lap-time that translates into fourth place on the grid for tomorrow’s race.
Manuel Gonzalez also made it directly into Q2: after putting fresh tyres on, he set his personal quickest time in 2’04.802secs on lap six. He will start the penultimate race of the year from eighth place, with a good start that will be the key in order to battle for top positions.
4th – ALBERT ARENAS #75 (2’04.643)
“We continued on the work we had started yesterday and achieved the goal of a good single-lap performance. For the first time this year, we were able to top the combined timesheets of the two Practice session, which is positive as we weren’t necessary looking for the one-lap speed. Then in qualifying we secured a second-row start for the race: we have done a good job so far this weekend with used tyres and tomorrow’s race will be a tough one, with high temperatures, and tyre management with therefore be crucial.”
8th – MANUEL GONZALEZ #18 (2’04.802)
“It was a difficult day for us as the track conditions were different compared to yesterday, where the feeling was really good, so we had to do a lot of work between Practice 2 and Qualifying. The feeling did improve in the end, which was very important for us. I couldn’t put together a great lap in qualifying and I feel we could have finished higher. Tomorrow’s race is going to be a very long one, so it’ll be key to not push too much with the rear tyre – so that we can aim at the top positions.”
