MARC SHOWS GREAT SPEED AT ASSEN, TOP-7 RESULT FOR ALEX
Team Gresini Racing MotoGP is back battling for top position in the final day of action at Assen, with Marc Marquez crossing the line fourth in this eighth full race of the 2024 season. It was everything but an easy race, however, with track temperatures a lot lower compared to the previous two days and with a big battle for the podium, which was the #93 hard at work against Viñales, Diggia and Bastianini.
The unfortunate turn of events happened after the chequered flag, with Marc being penalised due to an incorrect tyre pressure – which was partly created by a coming together at turn one. Sixteen seconds were added to his race total, which translated into a 10th final position and only six points under his belt.
Alex Marquez, who started from the front row, could not find the perfect pace and was ultimately eighth at the flag (before being promoted to 7th following his brother’s penalty). Still, he managed to score some important points and get a confidence boost ahead of the Sachsenring, taking place in less than a week, where both riders will try to make amends before the summer break.

“Unfortunately, even if by very little, we’re outside the technical parameters regarding tyre pressure and therefore we accept the penalty. It’s really a shame to leave here with such few points: we could have scored two fourth place finishes but… The coming together with Bastianini surely played a part but we’re not looking for excuses, I was playing well with tyre pressure until that moment. Let’s wrap up this weekend and turn our focus on Germany.”

“It was a difficult race, even though overall it was a positive weekend. We struggled to make the bike turn with the hard front tyre, but we would have struggled too much with the soft option. We’ll need to work already in Germany to understand how to improve. Today’s data will surely be useful for the upcoming races, we have a clear idea and let’s hope we can put them into fruition already at the Sachsenring.”
