MARC QUICKLY UP TO SPEED, ALEX MISSES ON DIRECT SEED TO Q2

A bittersweet opening day draws to a close for Team Gresini Racing MotoGP, as Marc Márquez was among the protagonists today while Alex Márquez, currently battling with the pain, was far away from top ten positions.

It was not a day to remember for the #73: the consequences of last Sunday’s crash at MotorLand Aragón are still very much present and the Spaniard could not finish higher than 18th in practice – slightly more than half a second away from Q2 (P10).

Marc’s feeling is very much similar to the one he had at the Red Bull Ring: the #93 had fun on track even though the third split (and turn 11 in particular) still remains a weak spot for the eight-time world champion. The goal will be to improve in that area of the track tomorrow.

2nd – MARC MARQUEZ #93 (1’30.870s)

We’re happy with today: we were able to get the same feeling and the quick lap-times came. We’re still missing something in order to be at our best, but right now I see myself on row two and maybe in the podium battle. We need to improve in the third sector as those right-hand corners don’t play to my strengths, but we’re there.”

18th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (1’31.908s)

“It wasn’t my best Friday, unfortunately due to some ongoing physical issues aboard the bike which prevent me from being at my best. The feeling is good and we can do a good job this weekend, even though we need to make a step forward on the fitness side if we want to be part of the game.”
