ROW FIVE FOR SALAČ, ROW SIX FOR ALCOBA AT MONTMELÓ
Cloudy skies accompanied the riders of QJMOTOR Gresini Racing in this second day of action for the Catalan GP, in which Filip Salač missed the direct seed to Q2 for only 29 thousandths of a second – he was 15th in the combined times of the three FP sessions. Forced to go through Q1, he managed to put together a competitive lap time just before the chequered flag and managed to make it through. With a time of 1’44.490 in the final qualifying session, he secured the thirteenth spot on the grid for tomorrow’s race. He will aim at scoring some important points for his championship classification.
Jeremy Alcoba had a positive FP3 session which granted him the direct seed to Q2, as he was twelfth fastest in the combined times (1’44.660). He struggled in qualifying, however, and with a time of 1’44.906 he found himself in sixteenth place. He will start tomorrow’s encounter from row six, ready for a comeback race in front of his home crowd.
13th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’44.490)
“This morning I missed the access to Q2 for a very small margin but then I managed to make it through in 11 thanks to a good lap that came only at the last second, as many riders were waiting and ruined mu previous attempts. I was really angry, but we still managed to complete a good lap and make it into Q2. We’ll start the race tomorrow from thirteenth place and it’ll be a challenging race as we’re all very close, so a good start and a good opening lap will be key to succeed.”
16th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’44.906)
“It was a bit of a particular race: this morning I really had a good feeling; we were very quick, so much so that we took one second off yesterday’s time. The feeling was really good. During qualifying the wind really complicated things; I had more to give but I couldn’t show it. It’s my home race and I wanted to do well in qualifying in order to start closer to the front, I tried but didn’t make it. Now we’ll work ahead of tomorrow and do our best to bring home a good result.”
